The Village of Bolingbrook is seeking a qualified applicant to fill an open Maintenance Worker Level II position in the Public Works Department. The role is part of the Concrete division, and under immediate supervision of the section supervisor; performs manual labor work involving physically demanding unskilled and semi-skilled tasks; performs related work as required. This position is represented by the AFSCME union.

Shift:                 40-Hour work week (Four / Ten-hour days per week) / possible weekend availability.

Salary:              $52,468.16

Assignment:  Concrete Sections

Examples Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Curb and sidewalk break outs.
  • Cleaning and rebuilding of catch basins, creeks, and culverts
  • Pouring concrete.
  • Sandblasting equipment.
  • Snow removal.
  • Cleaning up debris.
  • Preparing and laying of asphalt.
  • Performs excavation with manual and motorized equipment
  • Fabricates, maintains, and installs street signs.
  • Performs other tasks as required, or as assigned, which are within the scope of the duties enumerated pertaining to the Job Descriptions.


  • High-school graduate or equivalent
  • Possess a valid CDL license or have the ability to obtain one within 3-months of hire.
  • Plowing snow.
  • Availability to respond to emergency call outs and/or snow removal duties on a 24-hour basis.
  • Capability of performing heavy physical labor, up to and including lifting objects weighing between 120lbs and 150 lbs.
  • Ability to walk, stand, kneel, or sit for long periods of time, and climb flights of stairs and ladders.
  • Able to endure exposure in extreme weather and lighting conditions, and the potential danger of working in or around traffic.
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and non-verbally.
  • Knowledge of standard tool usages in maintenance & construction, supplies, and materials common in manual labor tasks.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures with mechanized equipment.
  • Possession of equivalent job-related experience and/or training strongly recommended.
  • Reside within thirteen (13) miles of the center of the Village of Bolingbrook (as determined by the Public Works Department), or within a municipality, any portion of which is located within thirteen (13) miles of the center of the Village of Bolingbrook, within six (6) months of the date the probationary period ends.
