Definition:

Under the direction of the Planning and Zoning Administrator, performs professional planning and zoning duties within the Planning Division of the Public Services & Development Department. The work of this class involves the review of plans, coordination of related work performed by other departments, and generating of report. The position has an eight-hour workday, Monday through Friday, but may be extended due to unexpected workloads or unusual planning activities. This position is represented by the MAP #522 union.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Reviews development proposals for conformity with principles of good planning and land use practice for compliance with Zoning Ordinance and Development Code regulations.
• Coordinates reviews performed by other departments.
• Prepares reports and recommendations to the Plan Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals.
• Attends Plan Commission, Zoning Board of Appeals, and other Village Board and commission meetings.
• Prepares Plan Commission recommendations to the Village Board of Trustees,
• Prepares Zoning Certificates.
• Responds to inquiries from the public via phone, mail, and email.
• Meets with and advises developers.
• Responds to inquiries from other departments and the public regarding planning, zoning, and development matters.
• Performs other duties as required, or as assigned, which are within the scope of the duties enumerated pertaining to the Job Description.

Required Skills and Abilities:

• Ability to pass a pre-employment physical and drug screening.
• Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Landscape Architecture, or related field, from an accredited college or university is required.
• Professional experience with local government, either as an employee or consultant, may substitute for the required Planning degree.
• Knowledge of theory, principles, and practices of sound planning.
• Knowledge of ordinances, codes, and regulations pertaining to Planning and Zoning.
• Knowledge of design, environmental concerns, economics, and engineering as they relate to Planning and Zoning.
• Working knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office products.

Special Requirements:

Must reside in a community (or unincorporated areas) within the State of Illinois which falls within a thirty (30) miles of the intersection of Briarcliff Road and North Bolingbrook Drive (Route 53) within six (6) months of the date his/her probationary period ends.

Salary: $60,387.59 Annually
