The Village of Downers Grove is seeking an Accounting Supervisor who, under the general direction of the Assistant Finance Director, is responsible for managing all accounting-related functions in the Finance Department. This role will focus on the preparation and management of the daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting responsibilities. A successful candidate will have strong supervisory, analytical, and organizational skills, along with an advanced knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and procedures.

Major Duties and Functions:
– Prepares monthly bank and investment reconciliations, general ledger, and other subsidiary ledger reconciliations.
– Coordinates month-end procedures, prepares journal entries, and completes and analyzes the monthly financial statements.
– Records debt service payments.
– Maintains fixed assets and depreciation-related schedules.
– Prepares the monthly and quarterly sales tax reports promptly.
– Works closely with the Grants Coordinator on tracking the grant-related revenues and expenditures.
– Supervises the Accounting Specialist to provide guidance, assign work, evaluate performance and procedures, and resolve issues.
– Works closely with the Assistant Finance Director coordinating the audit process, preparing and organizing the audit-related work-papers, and assisting in the preparation of the statistical portion of the Annual Comprehensive Financial report.
– Prepares all other reports related to year-end processes.
– Prepares the quarterly expenditure reports for all departments and works with each department to monitor spending.
– Other duties, as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
– Knowledge of governmental accounting requirements and procedures.
– Ability to work under pressure and to adhere to tight deadlines.
– Must be a self-starter, with the ability to work independently, and also as part of a team.
– Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and use good judgment in applying and following established procedures and in meeting deadlines.
– Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills are essential.

Education and Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field. A minimum of five (5) years experience in accounting, with governmental accounting experience preferred. In addition, this position requires advanced use of Microsoft Excel. Prior experience with the Tyler Munis ERP system is preferred.

Licenses and Certifications: CPA or MBA preferred.

Salary and Benefits: $76,582 – $105,301, with a starting salary dependent on qualifications. The Village provides an excellent benefits package, including health insurance, dental, vision, and life insurance, and participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF).
