DESCRIPTION:
The Village of Glen Ellyn is seeking qualified candidates for the General Manager position at the premier Village Links Golf Course and Reserve 22 restaurant/banquet facility. This Department Head-level position is responsible for overseeing all aspects of recreational, dining, and banquet operations, including managing grounds, golf operations, and food and beverage services. Reporting directly to the Village Manager, the General Manager ensures high-quality customer experiences, fiscal responsibility, and operational excellence while maintaining Village-owned parks and facilities.
The General Manager serves as the staff liaison to the Recreation Commission and upholds the Village’s commitment to customer service, professionalism, and inclusive practices.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Develops and directs the implementation of goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and work standards for golf course and food and beverage operations.
- Develop long range plan, programs, and goals in conjunction with the Recreation Commission and the Village Manager.
- Plans, organizes, assigns, supervises, reviews, and evaluates the work of assigned staff.
- Prepares and administers the department’s budget.
- Directs Golf Course Maintenance, Golf Operations, food and beverage, and Banquet Operations to meet or exceed financial operational goals.
- Inspects and approves all facility expenses.
- Sets goals for customer service and financial performance; measures performance by collecting data and sharing results.
- Analyzes financial statements, manages cash flow and establishes strong controls to safeguard funds and take corrective action as necessary to drive profitability.
- Analyzes industry trends, customer feedback, and local competition; makes recommendations to adjust programs or services accordingly.
- Actively promotes the golf course and restaurant/banquet facilities by reviewing, approving, and implementing marketing plans and promotional events and activities.
- Drives customer loyalty by ensuring the highest standards of quality and service are met.
- Complies with and enforces sanitation regulations, safety standards, and federal, state, and local environmental rules and regulations.
- Contributes to the overall quality of the department’s service provision by developing and coordinating work teams and reviewing, recommending, and implementing improved policies and procedures.
- Serves as staff liaison to the Recreation Commission: attends and oversees monthly meetings in accordance with Illinois OMA rules and regulations.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, hospitality or related field;
- Five (5) years of managerial experience in golf course operations;
- OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Principles and practices of employee supervision, including selection, work planning, organization, performance review and evaluation, and employee training and discipline.
- Administrative principles and practices, including goal setting, program development, implementation and evaluation, and the management of employees.
- Principles and practices of budget development, administration, and financial reports.
- Knowledge of principles and procedures for personnel recruitment, selection, training, compensation and benefits, personnel information systems,
- Applicable personnel laws, codes, and regulations and addressing personnel-related issues.
- Computer applications related to the work.
- Principles and techniques of making effective oral presentations.
- Training others on work-related policies and procedures.
- Developing effective work teams and motivating individuals to achieve goals and objectives while providing exceptional customer services in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
- Strong customer service orientation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Interpreting, applying, and explaining complex federal, state, and local public laws.
- Preparing clear and concise reports, correspondence, and other written materials.
- Working collaboratively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
- Strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Ability to perform job duties in an office environment, including using standard office equipment, sitting for extended periods, and communicating effectively in person, over the phone, and through electronic means. Tasks may occasionally involve lifting or carrying items weighing up to 20 pounds, as well as reading printed materials and viewing digital screens.
Work is subject to performance with exposure to outside weather conditions.
SALARY/BENEFITS:
This is a full-time, exempt position with full benefits and participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF), a defined benefit retirement plan. Our comprehensive benefits package also includes health, dental, and vision insurance, life/AD&D coverage, flexible spending, transit, a 457 deferred compensation plan, paid time off, a wellness incentive program, and tuition reimbursement. Actual starting salary is negotiable, and will be dependent upon qualifications, experience, and professional achievement. The current salary range for this position is $121,445 to $170,022 (Grade U). Anticipated starting salary is +/- $145,733.
