POSITION SUMMARY

Under the guidance and direction of the Village Administrator and the broad policy guidance of the Village President and Board of Trustees, the Public Works Director performs complex supervisory, administrative and professional work in planning, organizing, directing, and supervising the Public Works Department. The Public Works Department includes the Utilities Division, Streets Division, Fleets Division, Engineering Division and Wastewater Treatment Plant, and other public works projects and programs.

This position provides leadership and direction to the Public Works Department including a tenured, professional Public Works leadership team and 43 total staff members. This position will oversee an operating budget of approximately $30 million.

Education: The successful candidate will have graduated from a four-year college or university with a degree in civil engineering, public administration or a closely related field.

Experience: A minimum of ten (10) years previous public works experience with four years of supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. The candidate must also possess considerable knowledge of civil engineering principles, practices and methods as applicable to a municipal setting including a thorough knowledge of applicable policies, laws, and regulations affecting Departmental and Village activities.
