POSITION SUMMARY
The position of Community Service Officer is responsible for animal related ordinances, local parking ordinances, traffic direction, property damage crashes, Police Department front desk duties and the performance of police related tasks which do not involve criminal investigations.  This non-sworn position requires a working knowledge of the functions of the police department, including support divisions and outside resources.

As CSO you will respond to and interact with residents, employees, business owners and others within and outside the organization in a courteous, professional and effective manner, always placing emphasis on customer service and public relations.  Frequent contact with the public demands a strong dedication to customer service and serving the community.

COMPENSATION
            2024 Starting hourly rate of $26.5415/hour ($55,206 annually)

HOURS AND SCHEDULE
40-hour work week – 10-hour shifts.  Workdays will rotate, Shifts include some weekends and holidays.
(Shifts are chosen annually, by seniority)

6 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.                                             6 a.m. – 4 p.m.
4 p.m. – 2:30 a.m.                                             2 p.m. – 12 a.m.
(includes 30 minute unpaid lunch)              8 p.m. – 6 a.m.

  • Knowledge of the Police department (including support divisions and outside resources), Village ordinances, Illinois Animal Control Act and other state laws to perform assignments
  • Ability to quickly observe, interpret and analyze situations

  • Ability to work under pressure and multi-task
  • Clear, concise written and verbal communication.  Ability to compose communications and maintain logs, using both manual method and computer
  • Ability to quickly learn and retain geographic knowledge concerning the Village and surrounding vicinity
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to work with domestic animals and wildlife; and learn animal and wildlife recognition, behavior and handling.
  • Ability to accurately process cash and credit card payments
  • Must be able to operate a Village vehicle in all types of weather conditions and maintain valid driver’s license

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND COMPUTER SKILLS

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • No prior experience or training required.
  • Parking Enforcement, Animal Control, Community Policing or similar experience a plus.
  • Keyboarding skills required.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, LEADS, CAD and ID Networks a plus.

FOREIGN LANGUAGE SKILLS              Fluency in a foreign language is preferred.

All positions require a pre-employment Village-paid background investigation, including credit and drug screen/physical.
