The position of Engineering Technician assists with engineering fieldwork, including the inspection and documentation of street, sewer, water, and other infrastructure improvements and to assure construction according to approved plans and specifications.

As Engineering Technician you will:
• Perform inspection of construction projects in order to ensure that public and private improvements are being installed in conformance with approved engineering plans. Monitors and inspects all aspects of street construction, water mains, sewer, stormwater facilities, grading, paving and similar improvements.
• Assist with construction layout activities including the use of survey and GPS equipment.
• Interact with construction crews and their superintendents, homeowners and other persons in order to communicate inspection requirements and addresses questions and complaints.
• Keep daily records of work progress by recording conversations and logging construction progress and accurately completes activity reports as required in order to ensure proper documentation on public works projects. Efficiently utilizes mobile tablet applications in the field, and computers in an office environment for this task.
• Maintain records of public infrastructure projects and updates asset management information utilizing specific computer and mobile device application software. Maintain records of inspection activity for private development and completes related reports utilizing the Village’s electronic permitting software within the office and mobile tablet application in the field.
• Assist engineers with plan and specification preparation and project management tasks.

COMPENSATION
2026 Salary Range of $38.6007/hr ($80,289) – $55.9092/hr ($116,291)
Starting salary DOQ

HOURS AND SCHEDULE
Full-time – 40 hours per week/8 hours per day           Location: Onsite/Hoffman Estates, IL
Monday – Friday between 7 a.m and 5 p.m.
(other hours may occasionally be necessary to fulfill the duties of the position)

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND COMPUTER SKILLS
Associate’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Construction Technology or related field
One to two years related work experience required
Electronic permitting software, Cartegraph, and GIS software experience preferred
Experience with Microsoft Office required
Illinois Class D Driver’s License is required
