Village of Huntley
Under the general supervision of the Chief Building Official, this position provides comprehensive and professional customer service, and administrative and clerical support primarily concerning the intake and management of construction permits through efficient dissemination and coordination of materials with Village staff for the Development Services Department. This position involves extensive public contact and serves as the public’s first point of contact with the Village via phone and in person.
A typical workday is on-site, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Examples of Duties
- Manages the permit intake process, including coordination with the general public, contractors, and design professionals, through interactions at the building permit counter, over the telephone, and through written communication.
- Provides customer service both in-person and over the phone. Receives internal and external customers at the front counter. Assists with questions regarding the building permit process. Receives phone calls and answers routine requests for information.
- Schedules inspections; receives inspection requests from developers, contractors, and homeowners. Ensures that permits have been picked up, and paid for and all necessary documents have been turned in. Coordinates the day and time of inspections to ensure efficiency and enters pertinent information in the current database.
- Tracks, monitors, and provides information regarding the status of building permits, code enforcement, and related issues. Contacts contractors, engineers, architects, and property owners if plans/sketches need to be altered to meet code.
- Issues over-the-counter permits.
- Performs general data entry, database management, and issuance of permits and certificates of occupancy.
Qualifications
Education and Experience: A high school diploma or equivalent; an associate’s degree is preferred. Experience working in a Building Department is desirable. Any combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
Licenses and Certifications: Possession of a valid Illinois driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record; completion of all required NIMS courses or the ability to complete within one year of hire.
Continued employment is contingent upon all required licenses and certifications being maintained in active status without suspension or revocation.

Supplemental Information
- Compensation: The anticipated starting rate is $26.946. The salary range for this position is $26.946 – $37.725.
- Hours: Part-time, non-exempt, 25 hours per week. Typical work hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
- Post Offer Requirements: Successful completion of a post-offer background check is required.
