Village of Huntley

Starting Salary Range: $54,469 – $56,500

The Village of Huntley is seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused professional to join our Development Services Department as a Permit Coordinator I. Under the direction of the Chief Building Official, this position will assist with the intake and management of construction permits, coordinate with contractors and the general public, and ensure a seamless workflow in the permitting process.

A typical workday is on-site, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Examples of Duties:

  • Manages the permit intake process, including coordination with the general public, contractors, and design professionals, through interactions at the building permit counter, over the telephone, and through written communication.
  • Assists with questions regarding the building permit process.
  • Receives phone calls and answers routine requests for information.
  • Schedules inspections; receives inspection requests from developers, contractors, and homeowners.
  • Coordinates the day and time of inspections to ensure efficiency and enters pertinent information in the current database.
  • Tracks, monitors, and provides information regarding the status of building permits, code enforcement, and related issues.
  • Contacts contractors, engineers, architects, and property owners if plans/sketches need to be altered to meet code.
  • Issues over-the-counter permits.
  • Assists both internal and external customers via telephone or in person.
  • Responds to online chat inquiries from the Village’s website.
  • Performs general data entry, database management, and clerical tasks, including handling FOIA requests and contractor registrations.
  • Contribute to a collaborative team environment and participate in special projects as needed.

Education and Experience

A high school diploma or equivalent; an associate’s degree is preferred. Experience working in a municipal building department is desirable. Any combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

Licenses and Certifications

Possession of a valid Illinois driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
Completion of all required NIMS courses or the ability to complete within one year of hire.[CN1]
Continued employment is contingent upon all required licenses and certifications being maintained in active status without suspension or revocation.

Examples of required knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Working knowledge of standard cash handling practices.
  • Intermediate knowledge of personal computer skills, email, Microsoft Office Suite, and database management.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with attention to detail.
  • Experience in customer service and effective problem-solving.
  • Basic understanding of building construction principles and local building codes.
  • Ability to handle confidential material and information in an ethical, professional manner.

Compensation: The salary range for this position is: $54,469 – $77,781 annually, with an anticipated starting salary of $54,469 – $56,500 depending upon experience and qualifications. The Village of Huntley offers a robust health and wellness package in addition to participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF).

Hours: Full-time, non-exempt, 40 hours per week.  Typical work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
