Description of Primary Purpose: The Village of Libertyville is seeking a qualified individual to fill the Full-Time vacancy in its Police Department. Community Service Officers (CSOs) provide a wide variety of field and administrative support to law enforcement staff and the public. The position involves a significant amount of public contact, with high levels of customer service being a priority. CSOs conduct parking enforcement; handle animal, non-criminal, and private property accident complaints; provide vehicle and pedestrian traffic control; and various other administrative duties.

Duties and responsibilities: Essential duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them if the work is similar, related, or logical to the position.
• Hears and respond to calls for service, taking action where appropriate;
• Provides motorist assist;
• Responds to animal complaints and calls to service;
• Provides house/business extra watch patrols;
• Assists with private property accidents (investigations);
• Provides information to persons who request information or assistance within the scope of the assigned duties;
• Assists and provides traffic direction as needed/requested;
• Issue local ordinance violations, citations, and appear in court and testify professionally and impartially when necessary;
• Performs vehicular and pedestrian traffic control;
• Performs assigned school crossing guard functions (if needed);
• Performs courier duties by picking up and delivering circuit court material to and from neighboring departments and the circuit court of Lake County;
• Assist with department community service projects and programs;

General Education, Experience, and License Requirements:
• High School diploma/GED; AND two (2) years of customer service experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Valid driver’s license
