The Village of Libertyville is seeking a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator, Level I or II depending on qualifications. The position is responsible for performing a variety of activities related to the operation and maintenance of the 4 mgd treatment plant, 15 sanitary lift stations and 1 stormwater pumping station.

Hiring Range:   

  • Level II Operator – $75,618-$90,000 (Full range: $75,618-$110,124)
  • Level I Operator – $68,056-$75,000 (Full range: $68,056-$99,110)

Education and Experience: 

  • Level II Operator – High school diploma/GED and five minimum (5) years of experience in the maintenance and operation of wastewater treatment facilities; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Level I Operator – High school diploma/GED and two (2) years of experience in the maintenance and operation of wastewater treatment facilities; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Preferred Knowledge and Skills: Practices and procedures for safe operations of materials, machinery, vehicles and equipment necessary for the maintenance and repair of the water distribution system; Occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable for public works maintenance.  Reading and following work orders; Use of hand and power tools; Follow safety precautions and recognize hazards; Communicate orally and in writing; Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Required Certificates, License and Registrations: 

  • Level II Operator – Illinois Class D Driver’s license and minimum Illinois EPA Class 2 Wastewater Operator’s license.
  • Level I Operator – Illinois Class D Driver’s license and minimum Illinois EPA Class 4 Wastewater Operator’s license.
