Village of Mount Prospect

The Mount Prospect Public Works Department is seeking candidates for the position of Project Engineer with the Engineering Division.

Essential Functions:

The primary function of the position is to manage all aspects of the Village’s annual Street Resurfacing Program.  Work includes the preparation of plans, specifications, and related documents. In addition, the position serves as Resident Engineer for the Street Resurfacing Program.

Additional responsibilities include the design and management of various public works projects including parking lots, sidewalks, bridges, water distribution facilities, storm and sanitary sewers, retention basins, creek bank stabilization, and street lighting as well as serving as the Village liaison on State/County road construction projects.

The position requires interacting with citizens, business owners, contractors, consultants, elected officials, State/County employees, and other stakeholders on a regular basis in dealing with engineering related issues.

Duties also include preparation and administration of engineering construction plans and contracts to ensure compliance with specifications and all applicable standards.  Specifically, coordination with IDOT staff to utilize MFT funding is essential as part of the Street Resurfacing Program.  This position will also need to be experienced in constructability reviews, the processing of project progress payment submittals, and competent with project correspondence with contractors, consultant engineers, and internal personnel.

Educational Requirements:

Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited program and registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Illinois required.

Experience Requirements:

A minimum of four years engineering experience in municipal engineering required, preferably managing street resurfacing and/or reconstruction projects.  Knowledge of IDOT requirements and processes to let annual Street Resurfacing Program and expend MFT funding preferred.

Valid Class B driver’s license (CDL) from the State of Illinois or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire.

Starting Rate:  $104,104 – $145,746 annually depending on qualifications.  Minimum 40 hours per week.
