The Village of Northbrook, Illinois (population 35,222), is a thriving, progressive community strategically located 25 miles north of Chicago. The Village of Northbrook is seeking applicants to fill an internship position during the summer season. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: development of social media and communications content, community outreach and content collection, data collection and entry, and preparing research documents, presentations, and programming for environmental education and advocacy initiatives.

Applicants must be skilled in the use of Microsoft Office software including Word and Excel, and be able to communicate effectively and professionally both orally and in writing. Qualified candidates should be comfortable attending community events as a representative of the Village and responding to calls and email requests from community stakeholders.

This position requires a High School diploma or general education degree (GED), supplemented by college level coursework in Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Sustainability, Biology, Geography, Urban Planning, or a related field. Preferred candidates will demonstrate an interest or background knowledge in the following subjects: energy, green buildings, transportation, waste, water, ecology, agriculture, and climate change. Qualified candidates must possess a valid driver’s license.

The hourly rate for this position is $17.00. The Village is seeking a seasonal commitment (start and end dates flexible) with a minimum of 20 hours per week depending on start and end dates.
