Range of the Position/ Grade: $109,975-$162,441 | Grade 340
FLSA Status: Exempt – Full-time
Location: Onsite – Village Hall| 1225 Cedar Ln., Northbrook, IL 60062
Schedule: Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or 8:30 am to 5 p.m. with occasional evening/ weekend meetings or special events.

The Village of Northbrook is seeking a collaborative, strategic, and motivated professional to serve as its next Economic Development Coordinator. This position plays a vital role in strengthening the Village’s economic vitality by supporting business attraction, retention, and expansion efforts.
Working under the direction of the Director of Development and Planning Services, the Economic Development Coordinator serves as a key liaison to the business community and supports initiatives that enhance Northbrook’s position as a premier place to live, work, and invest.
Key Responsibilities:
Business Engagement & Support
Develop and implement business retention and expansion programs through proactive outreach and relationship-building with local businesses
Serve as the primary point of contact for business inquiries, concerns, and assistance, acting as an advocate and ombudsman
Build and maintain strong relationships with business owners, developers, and commercial real estate professionals
Business Attraction & Development
Assist prospective businesses and developers by providing information on available sites, market advantages, development processes, and incentive opportunities
Promote Northbrook’s competitive advantages to attract new businesses and investment
Research, Analysis & Strategy
Conduct research and analysis on market trends, economic conditions, and development opportunities
Prepare financial and economic analyses to support business proposals and Village initiatives
Stay current on best practices in economic development and recommend innovative strategies
Marketing & Communications
Collaborate with Communications staff to develop and produce marketing materials that promote the Village locally and nationally
Prepare clear, compelling reports, presentations, and correspondence for internal and external audiences
Programs & Partnerships
Administer and manage the Village’s business incentive programs and track relevant state and federal programs
Provide lead staff support for economic development districts such as TIF and SSA
Partner with local and regional organizations, including the Northbrook Chamber of Commerce and Chicago’s North Shore Convention and Visitors Bureau
Serve as staff liaison to the Economic Strategy Commission and collaborate with the Sustainability Commission on green business initiatives
Must haves for the ideal candidate include:
License(s) and/or Certification(s)
Must possess a valid State of Illinois Class D drivers’ license, or ability to obtain one upon hire.
Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) or American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) preferred.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Economics, Marketing, Urban Planning or related field.
A minimum of five (5) years’ of relatable experience
Physical requirements
This role is mainly desk-based and involves regular computer work, including typing and reviewing documents. From time to time, you may need to stand, walk, or lift light items.
Vision: See in the normal visual range with or without correction; vision sufficient to read computer screens and printed documents and to operate equipment and hand tools.
Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
