The Development Services Department seeks a mature, responsible, goal-oriented self-starter to assist with continued progressive development efforts as Health & Housing Inspector. This individual will assure regulatory inspection and enforcement of all ordinances, policies, rules, and regulations of the village related to public health, property maintenance, and rental housing.

Key Responsibilities

This includes provisions regarding the control of communicable diseases, the existence of nuisances and property maintenance regulations endangering the public, the care and handling of food and beverages, and the regulation of food service establishments; in addition to enforcing property maintenance and rental housing codes adopted by the village.

Responsibilities include health inspection of food services and retail food establishments; enforcement of procedures which ensure the proper handling, serving and storage of foodstuffs; review and comment on plans for new food service establishments and major alterations to existing establishments; and performing business license inspections. Will also receive and process all complaints and inquiries related to environmental health concerns including rodents and insects.

Additionally, this role will perform inspections of existing buildings and properties for conformance with village code regulations; make recommendations for changes to adopted codes and ordinances; confer with property owners and/or tenants on property maintenance practices and related matters of safety; and inspect businesses for possible violations.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

A bachelor’s degree in a related field and four (4) to six (6) years of related experience required.  Master’s degree preferred.  Proficiency with Microsoft Office required.  Must possess a valid Illinois driver’s license.

This position requires an Environmental Health Practitioner license issued by the State of Illinois Department of Professional Regulation.  Ability to obtain Property Maintenance Certification through the International Code Council within 6 months of employment is required.  State of Illinois Food Service Sanitation Manager Certificate preferred.

The ideal candidate must have the ability to perform technical inspections and make corrective recommendations; maintain effective working relationships; and excellent oral and written skills are also required.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary range for this IBEW position is $74,346.06- $102,653.62 depending on qualifications. This full-time position is eligible for the Village of Orland Park’s generous and comprehensive employee benefits program which includes medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and an employee wellness program.  Retirement benefits through the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) are provided along with the option to participate in a 457(b) plan through Nationwide Retirement Services. The Village of Orland Park also provides for paid vacation, personal, sick days, and holidays.
