Orland Park provides and maintains 60 village parks, over 30 miles of trails, 139 athletic fields/courts, and approximately 300 acres of open space acquired through the Village Open Lands of Orland Park program. This equals over 600 acres of park space to meet the needs of residents and visitors of all ages and a variety of interests. Our esteemed Recreation & Parks Department seeks an enthusiastic, responsible, maintenance professional to join the team as a Maintenance Worker I.

This union (AFSCME) position is responsible for performing varied maintenance and construction duties relative to Village parks, playgrounds, equipment and buildings.

This important role will receive and respond to work orders; perform semi-skilled building maintenance, carpentry, painting and masonry tasks; cleans construct and repair drainage structures and systems; inspect, install, maintain and repair playground equipment; perform routine equipment maintenance; operate light and heavy duty motor vehicle equipment, including, but not limited to, pick-up and dump trucks, tractors, mowers and end-loaders; load, unload and haul materials; clear work sites or debris; and perform snow removal, sanding and salting of roadways as required.

In addition, this position rakes leaves and cuts brush; performs minor construction work and routine maintenance work on electrical, lighting, plumbing and other systems; performs some roof repair; digs and installs fence posts; dusts, cleans and sets up furniture, equipment and fixtures; repairs, vacuums and cleans carpets; sweeps, mops and waxes floors; gathers and disposes of refuse; cleans and supplies restroom; applies sanitation chemicals; performs restoration and maintenance of turf areas; installs, fertilizers, mows, repairs and treats sod; lays out athletic fields and play areas; installs, maintains and repairs fences, stands, lights, dugouts, and related appurtenances; maintains inventory of necessary parts, equipment and supplies, requisitions additional inventory as needed; performs miscellaneous transportation errands as required; and performs other duties as required or as may be assigned.

Must have a High School diploma or equivalent, in addition to a minimum of five (5) years of relevant maintenance experience. Bachelor’s Degree preferred.

The ideal candidate will have previous landscaping, maintenance or construction experience, in addition to the ability to diagnose equipment and mechanical malfunctions. Working knowledge of cleaning materials, equipment, electrical, lighting, heating, ventilation, and plumbing is preferred.

Possession of a valid Illinois Class “A” CDL Illinois Driver’s License with airbrake, trailer and tanker endorsements is required within six (6) months of employment.

Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships, maintain composure in emergency situations, work within time constraints, prepare routine reports, write legibly, and follow verbal and written instructions.

Must be available Tuesday – Saturday from 6:00AM to 2:00 PM.

The Village of Orland Park offers a comprehensive and competitive salary and benefits package which includes an annual salary of $51,500.80-$74,206.72 depending on experience & qualifications. Additionally, the Village provides a comprehensive employee benefits and wellness program which includes three (3) medical insurance plan options, Village-sponsored dental, vision, and life insurance plan, and enrollment in IMRF (Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund).
