SALARY: $34.42 per hour or dependent on contract language based on a 40-hour workweek. This position is represented by a union; you may refer to the EPW Local 150 collective bargaining agreement available on our website.

This position plans and performs maintenance on all village owned trees, including those located around village buildings and those on any village owned right-of-way (parkway trees) and supervises crew of laborers. Work requires exercise of considerable professional judgment and initiative within the framework of established regulations and policies.

To succeed in this role, applicants will need to effectively and clearly communicate to a full range of people and establish and maintain effective working relationships at all levels while demonstrating leadership skills. We are looking to add a team member capable of finding solutions and have the ability to shift gears comfortably.

1. All those listed in Certified Arborist position.
2. Participates in developing and implementing long term plans and programs for Village tree planting and preparing promotional information relating to tree programs promoting the planting, care, and rehabilitation of trees in the Village.
3. Coordinates re-forestation program including cost share replacement trees, and accident replacement trees; has input into contractual tree planting and monitors planting contracts; may select and tag trees at nursery prior to planting.
4. Provides technical information concerning selection, planting, and maintenance of landscape plantings to developers, contractors, and general public.
5. Inspects, diagnoses, and treats trees for disease and insect infestations.
6. Prepares written records in trimming programs, re-forestation programs, develops planting programs that are readily available and can be used as base data for computerized tree inventory.
7. Prepares and maintains tree planning and tree trimming lists and keeps information on file during tree replacements warranty period.
8. Makes presentations to citizens, outside agencies and community groups on the care and maintenance of trees, responds to questions from the public concerning tree planting and maintenance, and explains City plans, policies, and ordinances.
9. Monitors and supervises departmental landscape contractors and contracts.
10. Performs other duties as assigned.

1. Education equivalent to a high school diploma.
2. A minimum of one year of experience in urban forestry operations including tree trimming, tree planting, tree spraying, tree identification and disease analysis.
3. Certification as an Arborist by the International Society of Arboriculture.
4. Possession or ability to obtain a commercial pesticide applicators license in the category “Ornamental” from the State of Illinois Department of Agriculture within one year from date of employment.
5. Possession of a valid State of Illinois Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or ability to obtain within six months from date of hire.
6. Proficiency with current computer software systems, including email, calendar programs, job specific software, and customer service systems preferred or within the first six months of employment.
