The Village of Tinley Park is currently seeking to fill the position of Property & Evidence Custodian supporting the operations of the Administrative Division of the Tinley Park Police Department. The Tinley Park Police Department has more than 150 employees, including 99 full-time, sworn positions. The police department also is responsible for Crime Prevention, the Crime Free Rental Housing Program, National Night Out and the Citizen’s Police Academy. The Property & Evidence Custodian will be primarily responsible for overseeing security and integrity of evidence rooms receiving organizing, preserving, securing, and preparing evidence for various labs. This position will handle evidence & property according to established procedures and shall determine appropriate and lawful disposition of property while keeping accurate records to maintain integrity and chain of custody of all property and evidence.
Additional responsibilities include preparing evidence for court proceedings, testifying in court when subpoenaed, responding to information request from other departments and the public regarding receipt and return of evidence property and case dispositions, and ensuring proper retention of records.
An associate’s degree is preferred along with a minimum of one (1) to three (3) years of related experience with records management, evidence handling, customer service, and/or data processing is required. Law enforcement experience is highly preferred. Proficiency with Microsoft Office is required. Law Enforcement Agencies Data Systems (LEADS) with less than full access certified or must successfully complete within six months of hire. A valid Driver’s License is required.
