The Village of Westmont is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Forestry & Grounds Maintenance Worker to join our Public Works Department. If you have a passion for working outdoors and a commitment to community, this is an outstanding opportunity! This position directly contributes to the beauty and aesthetics of the Village’s central business district. As a Forestry & Grounds Maintenance Worker, you will play a vital role in maintaining the Village’s annual flower plantings. You will be responsible for the planting, watering, fertilization, weeding and the general health and beauty of the Village’s annual flower plantings, including pots, planters boxes and landscape beds.
A glimpse into a day of the Forestry & Grounds Maintenance Worker:
Work starting time may vary during the flower watering season. 4:00 am or 5:00 am start times may be necessary to beat street traffic and parking, making for an early start, but allowing your work days to end at 12:30 pm or 1:30 pm during those times.
Working individually, you will hop in a tanker-type truck to start your day, tasked with the proper watering of each individual flower basket, planter box or planting bed.
While this job is mainly in the watering of flowers, this position will need eagerness and versatility to assist in other Public Works tasks to contribute to the goals of the Public Works Department as a whole. This includes year round emergency response and standby response.
Work through the seasons typically consists of:
Spring
Assistance with Forestry and Horticulture projects. Planting bed preparation. Planting of bulbs, annual and perennial flowers, shrubs and trees.
Summer
Flower watering, fertilization and weeding (mid May-mid October)
Fall
Annual flower removal, fall decor setup and take down, holiday lights and decorations setup, tree pruning
Winter
Assistance with Forestry and Horticulture projects. Snow plowing and removal as necessary, holiday lights and decorations take down. Planter cleaning and preparation.

This is a full-time, non-exempt (hourly) position. The starting wage range is $26.60/hr – $34.91/hr (DOQ).
