What Does a Senior Maintenance Worker – Underground do?

This position will report to the Public Works facility each day and under general supervision of the Public Works Supervisor – Underground Division, operates varied equipment engaged in several programs, such as water main repairs, repair of fire hydrants and valves, storm sewer repairs, storm sewer maintenance and locating of underground utilities for J.U.L.I.E. and other related programs, which includes the operation of heavy equipment; acts as lead worker or crew chief in directing workers on a specific project.

Are You Qualified?

• Requires a minimum of three to five (3-5) years of experience working for a municipality or similar agency and/or construction experience with a private contractor , preferably with water distribution or storm sewer systems , or experience in the operation of related equipment.
• Requires possession of a valid Illinois CDL Class “B” vehicle operator’s license with air brake and tanker endorsement.
• Requires possession of an IEPA Class D or C Water Operator license, or Operator in Training designation and ability to obtain an
• IEPA Class D or C Water Operator license within three (3) months.
• Requires ability to act as a lead worker in directing work activities to employees on specific assignments.
• Requires ability and willingness to respond to emergency calls on a 24 hour, 7 day basis and within a 30-45 minute time period.
• Ability to accept rotating, after hours standby assignments.
• Requires skill in the operation of equipment such as backhoes and vactors.
• Requires ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with municipal employees and the general public.
• Possesses a safety-focused mindset.
• Reliable attendance is essential for success.

This is a full-time, non-exempt (hourly) position. Starting wage range is $32.19/hr – $42.25/hr (DOQ), with the top of the range being $48.29/hr.
