What Does a Water Plant Operator Do?
Under general supervision of the Public Works Supervisor – Water Division, performs duties in the operation and maintenance of the municipal water system in order to provide an adequate supply of safe, potable water for the consumption and use of Village residents; inspects, operates, adjusts, maintains and repairs system equipment and machinery; performs simple laboratory analysis of water samples.

Are You Qualified?
Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to four years of high school as well as 3 years municipal experience – preferably in water operations, a working knowledge of operation, adjustment, maintenance and repair of equipment/machinery used in a public water supply system and some experience with a computerized SCADA Control System. Valid IL CDL Class “B” Vehicle Operator’s License with airbrake endorsement and Illinois Class C Water Supply Operator’s Certification required (or ability and willingness to obtain both within 12 months of date of hire).

Successful candidates will have ability to operate, maintain and repair the pumps, control panels and other equipment used in water plant operations and the ability to perform accurate chemical tests of water samples and prepare reports, as well as the ability to be on call and/or standby 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with an expected response to calls within 30 minutes while on standby.

What Will I Get Paid?
This is a full-time, non-exempt (hourly) position with a starting wage of $28.75/hr – $32.42/hr (DOQ).
