Village of Wilmette
The Village is seeking to hire a full-time Permit Clerk in the Community Development Department. The person in this position will work under the supervision of the Deputy Director of Community Development.
General Responsibilities:
The individual in this position provides customer service support to the general public for building and construction permits within the Community Development and Engineering Departments. Responsibilities include answering telephone inquiries, assisting walk-in customers, processing permits and performing data entry, maintaining departmental office supplies, supporting department purchasing functions, and performing other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements:
The successful candidate must have a high school diploma or equivalent, along with a minimum of one year of office experience. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication, customer service and organizational skills, be detail-oriented, and demonstrate the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously. The ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers is essential. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Publisher, and Outlook, as well as Adobe Professional, is required. The candidate must also have the ability to utilize the Village’s ERP system (MUNIS) and permitting software, including CitizenServe (forthcoming), as well as the ability to learn the Village’s enterprise software systems. Experience working with the general public in a fast-paced customer service environment is preferred.
Compensation and Benefits:
The salary range is $58,025 to $76,998 with a starting salary dependent on qualifications. The Village offers excellent benefits which includes participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF), medical, dental and vision coverage, life insurance, and voluntary participation in a deferred compensation program (457 plan), and paid time off.
Selection Process:
Candidates will participate in multiple interviews. The selected candidate will be required to successfully complete a reference check, a criminal background check, drug & alcohol screening (excluding cannabis), and a driver’s license verification with the Secretary of State’s Office.
