The Village of Wilmette is seeking to fill the full-time position of Water Treatment Operator in the Water Management Department. The person in this position will work under the direction of the Assistant Director of Water Management.

Wilmette is a beautiful, historic community located 16 miles north of downtown Chicago with convenient access to the Metra train station (Union Pacific North Line) as well as the CTA Purple Line. The community has approximately 28,000 residents and total area of 5.4 square miles. The Wilmette Water Plant is a surface water treatment facility located on the shores of Lake Michigan that provides water to nearly 100,000 residents in Wilmette and other surrounding communities.

General Responsibilities
The person in this position is responsible for a variety of manual and automated tasks in the maintenance and operation of the Village’s water supply system to include record keeping, performing basic water analysis, operating filtration, purification, and pumping equipment and tools. Of importance, this position will operate and carefully monitor the water treatment equipment, the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system, and adjust the controls of valves, pump motors, chlorinators, filters, chemical feeders and clarifies as necessary. The motors are gas or diesel driven with electrically operated pumps. This position is responsible for removing, installing, and performing repairs to water plant mechanical, electrical and plumbing equipment. Additional responsibilities include working a rotating shift schedule, and participation in the On-Call Specialist program will be required if selected; to include performing any other related duties as directed.

Position Requirements
The successful candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent, and a minimum of three years of experience in the operation and maintenance of boilers, switches, circuit breakers, pumps and motors and related equipment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered. Computer, plumbing, mechanical and electrical experience is strongly desired. The candidate must be able to lift up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds on an infrequent basis. The successful candidate must have a Class “A” State of Illinois Water Supply Operator’s license or must obtain the license within two years of employment. The candidate must be able to work alone for extended periods of 8 hours or more.

Compensation and Benefits
The 2023 salary range for a candidate who already possesses a Class “A” license is $76,066 to $100,936 with a starting salary DOQ. The 2023 salary range for a candidate who does not possess a Class “A” license is $71,758 to $95,220 with a starting salary DOQ. Selection Process
The successful candidate must be prepared to undergo a pre-employment physical examination that includes a back evaluation, drug and alcohol screening, audio and vision tests, psychological evaluation, background investigation, and a driver’s license records check.
