Summary of Responsibilities
MGT is seeking an experienced Director of Fire Department for a long-term contract role supporting a public-sector aviation facility. This position is responsible for overseeing fire and emergency response operations, ensuring regulatory compliance, supporting administrative functions, and maintaining a strong focus on safety, preparedness, and operational excellence.
Fire Safety & Emergency Management
  • Develop, implement, and maintain fire safety policies, procedures, and training programs.
  • Ensure full compliance with applicable fire safety regulations (including elements of FAR Part 139 and FAA advisory standards).
  • Coordinate and lead emergency response planning, drills, and incident management.
  • Maintain and oversee fire suppression systems, alarms, and emergency infrastructure.
  • Conduct facility risk assessments and fire safety inspections.
  • Collaborate with external emergency response agencies as needed.
  • Provide on-site support during emergency incidents, including firefighting and rescue operations.
Administrative & Operational Oversight
  • Manage departmental records, training logs, inspection results, and equipment inventories.
  • Supervise administrative teams supporting fire safety and facility operations.
  • Oversee department budgets, procurement, and resource allocation.
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies, workplace safety, and operational standards.
  • Participate in the planning and execution of emergency preparedness exercises.
  • Assist in labor relations, staffing assessments, and collective bargaining considerations as required.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Fire Science, Emergency Management, Public Administration, or related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of fire service experience, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or administrative capacity.
  • Demonstrated experience with training coordination, incident command systems (ICS/NIMS), and hazardous materials response.
  • Strong leadership, crisis management, and organizational communication skills.
  • Ability to develop and lead fire and rescue training programs.
  • Familiarity with local, state, and federal emergency response standards.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to maintain TSA security clearance (if applicable).
  • Certifications such as NFPA, OSHA Fire Safety, or related credentials preferred.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
  • Office-based administrative work with regular field activity, site inspections, and emergency response responsibilities.
  • Exposure to potentially hazardous conditions, weather extremes, and high-noise environments during incidents.
  • Physical capability to perform duties such as lifting, climbing, and operating in emergency response conditions.
  • Occasional off-hour availability required for emergency response or critical events.
