Description/Duties:
Performs mowing operations and various park maintenance tasks as assigned to areas, facilities, and site amenities.
Essential Functions:
Perform routine park mowing and landscape maintenance tasks.
Perform routine, preventive, and corrective maintenance of park amenities.
Handle hazardous chemicals.
Perform routine park maintenance functions including, but not limited to, playground maintenance, park cleanup, pesticide applications, turf aeration, and fertilization.
Operate high-risk equipment such as heavy machinery.
Tree planting and/or removals, landscape improvements, snow removal, and outdoor ice rink maintenance, vandalism repair, and athletic field preparation.
Construct, install, maintain, and repair site amenities including, but not limited to, bleachers, benches, signs, fencing, picnic tables, grills, and trash receptacles.
Communicate status report of assigned jobs through documentation of mowing checklist/work assignment forms.
Assist with preparation of project work schedules.
Assist in coordinating emergency repairs as needed. Assist with district snow removal operations, including plowing, blowing, shoveling, and salting of walkways and parking lots. Assist with equipment maintenance, upkeep of tools, and work area housekeeping.
Attend pertinent departmental/park district meetings and in-house training sessions.
Conduct self in accordance with the policies and procedures as established by the park district.
Participate in park district safety and training program to ensure that work performed, and services provided are implemented in a safe manner.
Qualifications:
Education:
High school diploma or GED required.
Additional training or education related to duties and responsibilities in park or landscape maintenance preferred.
Experience:
Minimum one (1) year of related park or landscape experience.
Knowledge:
Park or landscape maintenance operations and use of equipment.
Snow removal operations and use of equipment.
License / Certification:
Valid driver’s license required.
Pesticide Public Operators License State of Illinois required within one year.
First Aid/CPR/AED certification required within one (1) year.
Hours:
Monday-Friday 7:00am-3:30pm
40 hours/week. Must be available to work weekend and evening hours as needed. Position requires on-call availability for emergency repairs.
