Will County Animal Control

DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS: Under limited supervision provide professional medical veterinarian services within the County’s Animal Control Department. The principal function of an employee in this class is to ensure the humane treatment of animals while ensuring public safety regarding animal management issues, pursuant to the Animal Control Act (510 ILCS 5/) and applicable County of Will Ordinance. The work is performed under the direct supervision of the Animal Control Administrator, but extensive leeway is granted for the exercise of independent judgement and initiative. Train and coordinate the work of Animal Control staff in the operation and maintenance of the County’s Facility. Develop policies and procedures used in the care, security, prognosis, and euthanasia of captured and unclaimed animals. Set guidelines for adoption procedures. Communicate to the Administrator/Veterinarian the need for health status examination on all animals brought into the County’s Facility to check for disease, injuries or related conditions which may prove unsafe for the animal, Animal Control personnel or the public; request medical treatment as necessary.

Graduation from an accredited College or University with a Bachelor of Science in Public Administration, Business Administration, Bachelor’s in Animal Science, or related field. Work experience in the of field animal care and/or investigations for animal control, animal welfare, zoological institutions, or similar animal care related work preferred. Two years of management and supervisory experience. Valid State of Illinois Driver’s License required, and proof of automobile insurance as required by law.
