JOB TITLE: Accounting Assistant I – Cashier
DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS:
Under general supervision, the Accounting Assistant I – Cashier, performs a variety of clerical and accounting duties. This role will know how the property tax levy process works, know the roles of other County Departments and how they affect the property tax levy, and calculate interest and costs correctly. This position will have the ability to identify how and when a property tax payment should be applied, including the difference between current, delinquent, and back taxes, enter property tax payments accurately into the real estate system, close, open, and balance batches as needed. Also, be able to balance and complete deposit slips when needed, identify the difference between County funds and how and where to apply and deposit, the ability to distinguish between revenue, deposits, projects, and expense recoveries when entering transactions into the County finance system. Balance and apply accurate fund entries according to funds- based financial system and standard banking procedures. The Accounting Assistant I – Cashier will close and balance County funds daily, have basic knowledge of accounting principles, and the ability to adapt/learn system changes and updates.
High School Diploma or General Education Development Certificate (GED) required. Two (2) years of experience in cash management, banking, and/or bookkeeping/accounting. Any combination of coursework and experience, or extensive related professional experience, is acceptable for consideration for this position. Lift a minimum of thirty-five (35) pounds and successfully pass a lifting assessment. Type between 35 words per minute and successfully pass a typing assessment. Pass a skills assessment covering Microsoft Excel and calculator use. Associate’s degree, preferred. Spanish Speaking, preferred. Must have a valid driver’s license and minimum liability insurance required by law.
