Mount Prospect, IL – Combination Building Inspector

The Village of Mount Prospect, Illinois, population 56,852 is located along Metra’s Union Pacific Northwest Line, 23 miles from downtown Chicago and five miles north of O’Hare International Airport.  The Village is seeking applicants for the full-time position of Combination Building Inspector in the Community Development Department.

The position will perform daily building construction inspections and plan reviews to ensure compliance with the adopted building codes which govern building trades such as plumbing, electrical, structural, energy efficiency, radon control, and heating/ventilation/air conditioning.  This position has daily interaction with contractors, developers, and the public that requires excellent customer service and communication skills.  It is intended that this position inspects plumbing along with additional trades.

The ideal candidate would possess a minimum of 5 years in the plumbing industry (State of Illinois Plumbing License preferred), construction industry, skilled construction trades or comparable code enforcement work as well as knowledge of relevant codes and ordinances.  Candidates must possess or be able to obtain within 18 months of hire, a minimum of (3) ICC certifications in residential and commercial inspection and plan reviews for the plumbing, structural, mechanical, electric trades. Ability to obtain a certification as a State of Illinois Certified Plumbing Inspector within 24 months of hire also preferred.
