Middle School Principal

Reports To:  Superintendent

Qualifications:

Master’s Degree, PEL with Administrative or Principal Endorsement
Middle School endorsement and/or experience
Previous experience as a Principal or Assistant Principal
Highly collaborative and a strong team and consensus builder
Bilingual, preferred

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

The principal administers and supervised the total operation of the assigned building consistent with the policies of the Board of Education
and the laws of the State of Illinois.

The principal, as an instructional leader, contributes to the development of the district’s educational program and is primarily responsible for the
improvement, implementation and evaluation of instruction at the building level. The principal’s main priority is to be the instructional leader of their
facility and maintain a safe and secure learning environment.

Leadership Responsibilities: Provide leadership to develop and improve the instructional programs and academic achievement through the school improvement process.
Demonstrate commitment to student achievement, school improvement, and professional development.
Establish and promote high standards and expectations for all students and staff.
Organize, manage, evaluate, and supervise effective and clear procedures for the operation and function of the entire school consistent with the mission, vision, and goals of the school and district.
Establish and implement guidelines for proper student conduct and maintaining student discipline.
Encourage and facilitate communication between all stakeholders to help develop and implement school improvement plans, outcomes, and goals.
Recognize staff achievements and encourage feedback and participation in school planning.
Believe in the importance of active communication and planning for the articulation of students and programming between the middle school and District 100.
Responsible for hiring, supervising, and evaluating all staff within the building in collaboration with the Assistant Principals.
Supervise and evaluate Assistant Principals.
Know the provisions of all collective bargaining agreements to properly administer those provisions for which the principal is responsible.
Inform the Superintendent of any and all matters, events, and activities of an unusual nature as well as routine matters of significance.

General Administration:Assume responsibility for screening, interviewing, and recommending personnel assigned to the building for employment. Recommends retention, promotion, and reassignment of personnel within the building.
Ensure compliance with all laws, administrative codes, board policies and regulations.
Display the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards when working with students, parents, school personnel and agencies associated with the school and community.
Provide specific programs to encourage, develop, and nurture student leadership efforts and abilities through appropriate activities and programs.
Maintain student records and related correspondence in keeping with Board policies and regulations.
Organize and supervise with assistance from the Assistant Principals, programs related to lunchroom, building safety, and general school activities.
Direct and supervise the building maintenance and custodial programs with the assistance of the Director of Buildings and Grounds.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent

Physical Demands:Ability to read and communicate effectively with employees of the district.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions provided in either written, diagram or oral form.
Work involves walking, talking, hearing, using hands to handle, feel or operate objects or controls, and reaching with hands and arms.
Vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
May be required to push, pull, lift, and/or carry up to 20 pounds.
