The Downtown Development Manager develops and executes a comprehensive Downtown Revitalization and Management Plan based on the National Main Street Program Four-Point Approach: Organization, Promotion, Economic Restructuring and Design. This position is responsible for managing and serving as staff for the Stockbridge Main Street Program and its Advisory Board, along with the Downtown Development Authority and its Board of Directors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Acting as the City of Stockbridge’s key advocate and expert for the downtown
area.
• Developing and implementing strategies to attract businesses to the downtown
area.
• Developing and implementing strategies to promote the downtown area.
• Insuring compliance of local Main Street Program with the Georgia Department
of Community Affairs Office of Downtown Development Standards.
• Serving as staff support and managing all administrative functions, such as
budgeting, preparing reports, and scheduling meetings, for both the Main Street
Advisory Board and the Downtown Development Authority Board of Directors.
• Coordinating all Main Street Program and Downtown Development Authority
community activities and meetings.
• Working with Downtown Stakeholders (business/property owners, citizens,
community leaders, etc.) to implement downtown development programming
and strategies.
• Implementing marketing strategies and creating marketing materials (i.e., event
brochures, guides, flyers, posters, etc.) that will encourage Downtown business
development, recruitment, and retention.
• Implementing marketing strategies and creating marketing materials (i.e., event
brochures, guides, flyers, posters, etc.) for promoting the Downtown area.
• Preparing reports, including the State-required annual assessments, for
expenditures, purchasing, general record keeping and inventory management.
• Meeting with prospective clients to convey the City’s economic and downtown
development goals, practices and principles.
• Building strong relationships with local businesses and local associations.
• Engaging small business owners and community organizations in economic and
downtown development activities.
• Developing and conducting ongoing public awareness programs designed to
enhance appreciation of the downtown businesses, to foster an
understanding of Downtown Development programming, goals and
objectives, and to keep the program highly visible in the community.
• Recruiting volunteers to assist with implementing downtown development
programming and strategies.
• Maintaining and updating an inventory of available properties and buildings in
the downtown area.
• Maintaining a current knowledge of both National and State Main Street Program
principles and goals; and
• Maintaining a current knowledge of State of Georgia Downtown Development
Authority rules and regulations.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Preferred Skills:

• Knowledge of effective marketing, public relations, and social media strategies.
• Knowledge of Website communications would be a plus.
• Practical experience in managing an organization, including marketing,
recruitment, retention, planning a design, etc.
• Strong technical writing skills are required for grant writing.
• Experience as a Main Street Manager.

Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in public administration, marketing, planning, or related field with
3 (three) to five (5) years’ experience economic development and/or Main Street
Program preferred. Successful grant writing and administration experience is
desired. Weekend and night meetings are required of the position. An equivalent
combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills,
and abilities may be considered. A valid State of Georgia Driver’s license is
required.
