The Alliant Energy Center is a complex of multiple buildings ranging from the Veterans Memorial Coliseum, a 10,000+ person entertainment venue to the 29-acre Willow Island outdoor venue all encompassed across 164 acres of the City of Madison. It has ample parking and full amenities to provide for any of a full range of performances, exhibitors, trades, and other shows. The center has a robust infrastructure and a diverse experienced staff to provide the best experiences possible. 
 
The director is under the general direction of the County Executive and is responsible for leading and operational planning for the Alliant Energy Center. This includes all day-to-day operations and management of the facility and staff to ensure a financially and reputationally excellent entertainment complex for Dane County and its residents. 
 
The Alliant Energy Center has an operating budget of $9,300,000 with 43 employees, not including limited term event staff. 

The successful candidate will:  
  • Have a strong knowledge and understanding of large entertainment venues and their operation.
  • Have a complete understanding of the financial operations of a self-sustaining entertainment complex.
  • Be an energetic and ethical professional with strong technical, interpersonal and collaboration skills.
  • Have a record of problem solving, decisiveness, consensus building and approachability. 
  • Have the ability to manage and control budget and expenditures.
  • Adeptness at working with and presenting to a variety of stakeholders including vendors, entertainment representatives, the public and elected officials. 
  • Have the ability to supervise a staff with diverse expertise and experience to achieve the highest level of customer service.
  • Have an inclusive managerial style, as well as clear, concise, and open communication skills.
  • The ability to forecast utilization and promote the Alliant Energy Center in the marketplace.
  • The ability to coordinate with public safety agencies for a safe and secure environment for all facilities before, during and after events. 
Candidates should also have an equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, as outlined below: 
  • Any combination of education and training equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in business or public administration, recreation management, or closely related field.
  • Any combination of experiences equivalent to three to five years of leadership, oversight, and management of a multi-use convention facility and outdoor venues and park facilities. 
  • Specific experience in trade shows, concerts, agricultural shows, public events, and meetings of all sizes. 
  • Have the ability to work nontraditional business hours to accommodate for various events.
  • Have or the ability to obtain a valid driver’s license and access to personal transportation. 
 
The salary range is $172,000 to $188,000 and negotiable based on qualifications and experience. The County offers a premium full benefit package including participation in the Wisconsin Retirement System.
