Northbrook, IL (population 35,222) seeks a highly professional and progressive human resources leader to serve as its first Director of Human Resources where they will move the employee experience forward. This position will have the exciting opportunity to lead a newly created work group where they will articulate and implement industry best practices. As is a key member of the executive leadership team, the director will oversee recruitment and retention efforts, collective bargaining strategies, compensation administration, benefits, organizational development initiatives and interact with retirees. The individual must be a visionary and strategic thinker and consensus builder who can bring strong leadership and communication skills, modern and innovative management practices, and business acumen to this critical position. The ideal candidate will have a commitment to build relationships to effectively implement best practices and high-level customer service, as well as experience in conducting labor negotiations, addressing current workforce initiatives including but not limited to wellness and related benefits, legal compliance, succession planning, talent acquisition, retention, DEI, and professional development.   • The Village of Northbrook is a complex organization consisting of seven departments which include the Managers Office, Police, Fire, Finance, IT, Development and Planning Services and Public Works. The Village is staffed by 275 full time positions, 8.5 permanent part-time positions and 8.75 seasonal part-time positions and is party to four collective bargaining agreements.
  • The Director will be a strategic partner who will effectively guide and employment strategies and establish the newly created Human Resources Division of the Village Manager’s Office where they will have the impactful opportunity to hire a Senior Human Resources Generalist and an Employee Support Coordinator who will champion employee wellbeing initiatives for the workplace and retirees. The HR team will support the Village’s full complement of personnel services guided by a recently completed structural review of the human resources functions and services. The position reports to and is appointed by the Village Manager. 
  • Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Organizational Management or Leadership and/or Business or Public Administration or closely related field. A master’s degree is preferred. Seven years of experience in human resources with three of those years served in a management capacity. IPMA, SPHRM, SPHR or PHR credentials are highly valued. 
 
Starting salary range is $140,000 -160,000 +/- depending on qualifications and experience.
