The Borough of State College, PA (pop.42,275), a vibrant, diverse, and attractive community located in central Pennsylvania and home to Penn State University’s main campus, is seeking a creative, collaborative, and experienced Community Engagement Manager. This position reports directly to the Borough Manager and supervises one programming position. The Community Engagement Manager will have the opportunity to collaborate and build partnerships and connections across the community that strengthen and preserve the Town and Gown relationship between the Borough and Penn State University. The Community Engagement Manager will also contribute to the stability and vitality of the community by working collaboratively with neighborhood associations, long term residents, and students to ensure that the neighborhood adjacent to the Penn State campus remain stable and vibrant paces for all members of the community. The Community Engagement Manager will be able to develop and support opportunities for community members to connect with one another and celebrate the vitality and opportunities in the community.

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in sociology or related field; and supplemented by three (3) or more years’ directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training, and/or experience.  Must possess a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license or be able to obtain withing a reasonable period after hire.
 
In addition to meeting the minimum qualifications listed above, an individual must be able to perform each of the established essential functions to perform this job successfully.
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master’s degree in sociology or related field
  • Certificates in Town-Gown Relations
  • Previous experience in a community that supports a higher education institution.
  • Demonstrated experience in community engagement and a strong track record of collaboration with diverse individuals, groups and interests.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written skills.
 
Starting Salary range is $65,000 – $81,300 DOQ, with excellent benefits. This position is open until filled with priority given to applicants who apply on or before February 20, 2024.
