HIRING RANGE:                               $73,138.83 – $98,082.64, depending on experience.

HOURS PER WEEK:                         40 hours per week.

The Village of Algonquin is seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated, and reliable individual to join our team as a Planner for the Community Development Department.

GENERAL DUTIES:

Under general direction of Community Development Director, performs a variety of professional land use planning, research and technical activities ranging from routine to varied and complex including responding to questions from the public about Village Code requirements and procedures; establishing and maintaining electronic data bases, researching and preparing reports for planning and zoning issues; responsible for the processing of complex Special Use, Rezoning, and Planned Unit Development requests; and management of the Planning and Zoning, and Economic Development database and filing systems.

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND/OR REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Urban or Regional Planning, Landscape Architecture, Geography, or related field with a minimum of two (2) years’ experience in municipal planning; or a combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities may be accepted.  AICP certification or ability to obtain certification within two (2) years is desirable.

Skills: Requires the ability to apply urban planning principles to assignments; the ability to apply subdivision, zoning and other regulations to specific situations and prepare alternatives; the ability to implement Village ordinances and policies and analyze potential impacts of Village projects and private development plans, construction drawings and applicable ordinances, standards and objectives.  Required to function in a team environment as well as on your own and effectively communicate, both orally and in writing, with the public, Village staff, and representatives of other agencies.  Proficiency with current computer software systems, including Microsoft Office and job specific software within the first six months of employment.
