Downers Grove, IL – Building Maintenance Technician I

The Village of Downers Grove is seeking a qualified applicant to fill the Public Works Department’s Building Maintenance Technician I position. This position performs various mechanical maintenance, repair, and installation duties to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the Village’s facilities. The ideal candidate will have the strong interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively with employees, citizens, and businesses, along with the ability to quickly transition between jobs and duties without losing efficiency or focus.

Major Duties and Functions:
– Performs maintenance tasks for all Village facilities
– Purchases maintenance equipment as needed to complete necessary tasks
– Performs interior remodeling
– Performs snow removal while using assigned heavy equipment
– Maintains flexibility in work scheduling; allows for off-hour scheduling
– Attends all required safety training and applies training while performing work duties
– Other related duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
– Strong communication skills both oral and written
– Ability to diagnose and make decisions on repairs, maintenance, and installation
– Ability to operate heavy equipment and move furniture and objects

Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED required, technical degree preferred; or any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Licenses and Certifications: A valid Illinois Driver’s License and Forklift Certification. The Forklift Certification may be obtained within six months of hire.

Salary and Benefits: Starting wages for this position is $51,093, increasing to $72,990 following six years of service. This is a bargaining unit position in the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 150, Public Employees Division. The Village provides an excellent benefits package, including health, dental, and vision insurance, and participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF).
