What the job is: The Human Resources Generalist joins the Human Resources Director in supporting all aspects of the Village’s people operations needs – from compensation and classification, to talent acquisition and management, to supporting collective bargaining processes, to training and development and more, you’ll be a true generalist and work in all aspects of human resources. The Human Resources Generalist will conduct employee recruitment processes, coordinate organization-wide training, assist with employee relations, support collective bargaining processes, analyze compensation data and workforce trends, and research and make recommendations regarding programs and policies, with an eye toward continuous improvement, innovation and delivering excellent customer service. As part of a 107 full-time employee strong organization, the Human Resources Generalist will work closely with all departments of the Village and will have an important role in the Village being staffed, trained and ready to provide the very best local government services. Here’s what you’ll do in a typical day (and a few special projects):

·   Help departments find the best talent to join the Village’s team by conducting recruitment processes and facilitating employee onboarding

·   Empower the Village’s team to continue providing excellent services by coordinating organization-wide training and maintaining training records

·   Ensure that the Village continues to offer competitive salary and benefits packages, by conducting compensation surveys, analyzing data and making recommendations regarding compensation and classification

·   Recommend policies and procedures by conducting research and staying attuned to labor and employment law changes, best and emerging practices

·   Support professional growth of employees and continuous improvement of the Village of organization by helping to develop and implement programs related to employee development succession planning, and diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging

·   Promote a culture of wellbeing by developing and managing an employee wellness program

·   Support the Village’s strategic priority of fiscal responsibility by assisting with development of the department’s annual budget by analyzing budget needs, developing preliminary budget requests and evaluating expenditures

·   Support the Public Safety Commission’s recruitment and promotional processes to hire and promote excellent Public Safety Officers

·   Support collective bargaining processes

·   Engage with the community through working with volunteer boards and commissions as assigned

·   Lead the way by providing outstanding customer service

·   Develop and produce statistical reports to be used for decision-making purposes

·   Attends evening/weekend meetings as required; responds to after-hours emergencies if significant HR support is needed (emergency events are not common)

·   Support the Village’s strategic plan in daily work and special project

Required Qualifications

Education and Experience

·   Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, public administration or a related field plus one to three years of related work experience

·   Or, an equivalent combination of education and experience

Functional Knowledge

·   Sound knowledge of federal and state labor and employment laws, particularly those related to units of local government

·   Ability to acquire and apply understanding of department and Village-wide operations, policies and procedures

·   Strong analytical skills and a curiosity about how to improve processes and continue delivering more value to our customers

·   Attention to detail

·   Strong project management skills and a keen ability to drive projects to completion and meet key due dates

·   Familiarity with key public sector labor and employment laws and collective bargaining is preferred; or ability and interest to quickly learn

Interpersonal and Communication

·   Excellent customer service skills

·   Great communication skills

·   Ability to work independently and with teams

·   Maintain strong working relationship coworkers and open communication with all staff

·   Commitment to maintain strict confidentiality of private, sensitive or confidential information

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

·   Frequent lifting, pushing and pulling up to 10 pounds frequently and up to 20 pounds occasionally

·   Frequent talking and listening

·   Occasional walking and standing

·   Operate a light duty Village vehicle to travel between facilities as needed, or ability to travel to offsite meetings and facilities as needed

·   Walking, grasping, lifting and carrying objects; reaching, operating hand controls and office equipment

·   Strong emphasis on workplace safety

·   Ability to meet deadlines and manage frequent interruptions

·   Ability to respond to after-hours emergencies remotely or in person, depending on the circumstances

Salary and Benefits

The salary range for the position is $73,432 to $99,133 and the position is classified as FLSA exempt (not eligible to earn overtime).
