The Village of Northbrook is seeking an energetic, highly motivated individual to fill the role of Assistant Public Works Director on the Public Works Department’s Management Team. The Assistant Public Works Director works closely with the Director and Deputy Director of Public Works as well as the Village Engineer, Superintendents, and operational supervisors.

The Assistant Public Works Director will oversee the administrative and business functions of the Public Works Department. These will include preparation of the operational budgets and capital plan, customer service, communications, grant writing and administration, purchasing, and program development with operational team members. The Assistant Director will oversee the department’s Management Analyst, Administrative Assistant, and Administrative Clerk. The Assistant Public Works Director may also serve in an acting role for the Public Works Director, Deputy Public Works Director, or Superintendents.

A bachelor’s degree in political science, Public Administration, Business Administration, Communications, Finance, or Accounting is required with a master’s degree in similar fields is preferred. Position requires a minimum of 5 years municipal experience. The ideal candidate for this position will be self-directed and able to manage projects and deadlines, exercises good judgment and discretion in handling confidential matters, and possesses excellent written and oral communication skills.

The starting pay range for this position is $100,000 – $128,000 DOQ, with starting pay dependent on qualifications. The Village offers a generous benefit package that includes paid time off, insurance and IMRF pension. This position will remain open until filled.
