The Village of Northbrook (pop. 35,222) is seeking a thorough and detail-oriented individual for the position of CIVIL ENGINEERING PERMIT COORDINATOR in the Public Works Department. The Civil Engineering Permit Coordinator position reviews and coordinates department comments concerning commercial and residential development plans for compliance with codes, regulations, and storm water management practices.

Reporting to the Village Engineer, the Civil Engineering Permit Coordinator position will be responsible for reviewing and coordinating professional review services for the Public Works Department’s Engineering Division. Plan Review services will be permit related for site work drawings for commercial and residential projects within the Village boundaries. The Civil Engineering Permit Coordinator position will work indoors and outdoors throughout the year in all weather conditions.

The ideal candidate will have experience with bike and pedestrian transportation projects, design and construction methods for roadways, water main, storm and sanitary sewers, and other civil engineering projects. Essential duties include performing complex and professional engineering review work for private site improvements, including floodplain development, to ensure compliance with all current codes and standards. Works closely with the Public and Private Improvements Inspector to ensure private developments comply with current codes and standards.

Qualified applicants must possess a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in civil engineering, urban or regional planning, public administration, geography, or related field preferred. Minimum of three to five years of related experience in governmental planning and zoning administration or similar experience. A minimum of seven to ten years of related experience in governmental planning and zoning administration or similar experience may be substituted in lieu of a Bachelor’s Degree. Candidates must also possess good written and oral communication skills and have a valid Illinois driver’s license. Starting salary range for this non-exempt position is $80,000 – $85,000 +/- DOQ.
