The Village of Wilmette is excited to announce a new opportunity to become a part of a professional organization and enhance your career experience and make a meaningful impact on our community.  This is a full-time and non-exempt position in the Engineering & Public Works Department, 711 Laramie Avenue. This position will work from 7:00am to 3:00pm, Monday to Friday under the general supervision of the Deputy Director of Public Works.

General Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of the Operations Assistant are to assist in a wide variety of clerical to more complex administrative duties and projects. The specific responsibilities include assisting with the preparation of the department’s capital program and budget, annual report, accreditation process, data analysis, research, safety and training program and providing customer service in person, via email or telephone to residents and the general public. Additional duties include preparing the department’s payroll, member of the  department’s safety committee, generating work orders for field workers, ordering office supplies and uniforms, creating policies and procedures, and completing any other assigned work projects.

Position Requirements

The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college with at least two years of office experience, municipal experience is preferred. A valid Class D Driver’s License is required.  Qualified individuals will include those with a commitment to public service and a high level of customer service orientation. Essential position requirements include creativity, detail-oriented, flexibility, the ability to handle multiple and simultaneous projects, and be able to develop positive working relationships with co-workers and members of the community. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who can thrive with little oversight and able to convey information clearly in both writing and verbal communication.

Compensation and benefits

The salary range is $65,460 to $86,865 and the starting salary is dependent on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate. Selection Process

Candidates will undergo multiple interviews and may participate in an in-person written exercise. The selected candidate will need to successfully complete both a background check and driver’s license record check.
