The City of Greeley, CO (pop. 109,328seeks a skilled, experienced, confident, and approachable parks professional to serve as its next Deputy Director of Culture, Parks, and Recreation of Parks and Natural Area Operations. The Deputy Director of Culture, Parks, and Recreation will supervise the following areas within the Parks and Natural Areas Operations: Parks, Planning, Natural Areas, Trails, and Cemeteries.
 
The next Deputy Director will be responsible to lead, manage, and implement a systematic plan for the operation and care of parks, open space, natural areas, cemeteries, trails, athletic fields, and trees. This position is also responsible for the appropriate use and allocation of resources to achieve citywide goals and objectives and formulates plans, procedures, goals, and objectives. This position will assist in developing and executing plans and strategies for long- and short-range goals and the development of an annual action plan to achieve those goals and advance the department and city priorities.

The Ideal Candidate Will: 
  1. Coordinate and support the daily operations of the Parks and Natural Area Operations.
  2. Support all actions of the department comprehensive plan/needs assessment, related strategic action plans, and the development of an annual action plan to achieve those goals and advance the Parks and Natural Areas Operations.
  3. Be a strong, decisive, collaborative leader who can combine vision, strategy, and innovation.
  4.  Be able to demonstrate a can-do attitude with a history of successful outcomes in a collaborative environment. 
  5. Support departmental projects and initiatives and coordinate and support the daily operations of the department. 
  6. Coordinate and manage complex and high-profile projects involving competing interests and multiple objectives. 
  7. Effectively represents diverse interests, and objectively evaluates alternative approaches. 
  8. Take a strategic, creative, and innovative approach to issues and problems. 
  9. Develop and manage effective and inclusive public and team processes. 
  10. Be an approachable, empathetic, and a supportive leader who has a proven record of developing high performing teams. 
 
Candidate Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Parks and Recreation, Facility Management, Public Administration, Business, Finance, or a related field.
  • In lieu of a degree, a minimum of eight (8) years related to park operations, planning or natural areas experience. 
  • A minimum of five (5) years related parks and planning experience required, including at least three (3) years of leadership experience as a manager or comparable role.
  • Extensive experience in parks and recreation operations, as well as a robust knowledge of park and facility construction and maintenance 
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable State, Federal, and Local laws involving any playground safety or parks and open space natural areas specifications. 
License or Certificate 
  • Certification related to planning and development preferred, but not required.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado Driver’s license and a safe driving record.
  • Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) or Executive (CPRE) through the National is preferred Recreation and Parks association is given strong consideration. 
 
Compensation & Benefits
The expected hiring salary range: $119,700 – $143,700 annually DOQ. A generous benefit and retirement package is also offered by the city.
